Introduction - Tatler Media pack 

1) Look at the Tatler Media Pack. Go to page 2: how does the editor introduce the magazine?

The editor describes it as a very modern and high brow.She makes it seem like the readers are completely love struck with the magazine.


2) Now go to page 4 of the Media Pack. Focus on the print magazine (NOT tatler.com - the website). List the key demographic details: age, gender %, ABC1 % (social class), HHI (Household Income), % of those living in London and the South East. What do these demographic details suggest about the average Tatler reader?

The average Tatler reader has a disposable income and addicted with what they look like.

3) Look at page 6. What do Tatler readers think about fashion? How much do they spend?


over 843 million money was spent in fashion in the past year.They clearly think it's popular also they are really addicted to it because of how much money they spent on it. 

4) Go to page 10. What are the special editions of Tatler that run throughout the year? What does this suggest about the pyschographic groups who read Tatler?



  • travel guide-consumers have more then enough money to travel regularly.
  • wedding guide-consumers have lots of money to spend on huge weddings.
  • Beauty and Cosmetic Surgery Guide-consumers hold beauty because they think its important and worth spending thousands on.
  • Spa Guide-consumers enjoy taking care of themselves.
  • Watches and Jewellery Guide-Their jewellery and how they're seen is really important.
  • Schools Guide-Readers are old enough to have kids of their own.

1) What different examples of typography can you find on the cover of Tatler? What are the connotations of the serif and sans serif fonts? 

-There are variety of fonts (serif)
-Cover lines
-A deliberate colour palette 
-Cover model
-Direct eye contact
-Placed just above the centre
-Short professionally



2) How do the cover lines appeal to the Tatler target audience?

The serif font implies class and experience and that its only for smart and the richest men.

3) What are the connotations of the Tatler colour scheme on this particular front cover?

The sans serif fonts used for the cover lines aims to present the magazine and its for richer people.

Representations

1) What different groups of people are represented on the cover? (E.g. men/women/white people etc. Look at the image and text/cover lines to help here)

The only people represented on the front cover are white women.

2) What do the cover lines suggest about the lifestyle of rich people in the UK?

They focus very heavily on appearance.

3) Are there any stereotypes being reinforced or subverted? How? Why?

They are trying really hard to subvert the stereotypes.

4) What would be the preferred and oppositional readings to this cover of Tatler?

This could suggest it's a very conservative magazine.

Social and cultural context

1) What aspects of British life or people are NOT reflected in Tatler? (Watch the clip above again if you need help with this - the clue is in the title 'Posh People')

They do not show us what it's like to be a regular British.One that doesn't have lots of money.

2) Tatler runs special issues on holidays, spa breaks, cosmetic surgery, watches and jewellery and private schools. What does this suggest about the magazine's representation of life in Britain?

The magazine represents life in Britain to be luxurious.The obsession with appearance and taking care of yourself is incredibly reflective.

3) What audience groups might be offended or insulted by the front cover of Tatler April 2017? 

Everyone and anyone who isn't their target,audience who is rich enough.
